When opposites meet in a painting, excitement and excitement will cause you to keep on looking at the picture. And even when you do not look at it anymore, you can feel the elasticity between the extremes. Such paintings paint Kristian Devantier and the contradictions he allows to meet are the individual and the eternal, spontaneous and abstract painting, past anchoring and future vision.
In Christian Devantier's paintings, people, houses, trees and open skies of displaced faces emerge that are clearly read, bounded precisely against the surrounding colors. These surfaces or fields are for the most part massive monochrome, there is no graduation, nuance or visible brush strokes to interfere with the field's surface. The colors that Kristian Devantier uses most of is found in the scale that is often called both Nordic and Melancholy. |
