General: Because they were harvested from the end of June - around St. John's Day (24.06.) - the currants were given their name. They are available in red, black and white, but also in green and yellow. From a taste point of view, however, most people choose the red berries.
Ingredients: The black varieties score an A plus in the vitamin and mineral check. Reds and blacks contain very high amounts of vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and iron. They are bursting with fiber and their pigments carotenoids (red berries) and anthocyanins (black berries) act as radical scavengers and protect against cardiovascular diseases.
Purchasing/storage: The very sensitive berries do not like heat. If the bowl is wet at the bottom, leave it alone, because mushy berries quickly mold and infect the other berries as well. Immediately place the berries on flat plates at home. Covered with cling film, they will then keep in the refrigerator for about two to three days.
