Usually when the ball valve is in half open position, it allows the material flowing through it to get deposited in the body. This is undesirable if the the material can solidify or contaminate. Different colors of paints can also mix. To avoid this the cavity behind the ball is totally eliminated by filling it with PTFE. The ball seats are extended in such a manner that there is no place for the material to flow, other than through the valve. Hence, no deposit takes place inside the ball valve.
