Since its founding in 1965 as a shipping company in Hong Kong, Luen Thai has diversified its business interests that put global apparel manufacturing at its core. A steady growth in production has been experienced with the establishment of manufacturing plants in the Asia-Pacific region, and Central America, and offices in the United Kingdom, United States of America, and Hong Kong. In early 2002, the acquisition of GJM with UK-based sales and sourcing offices has expanded Luen Thai's presence in Europe. This forms part of Luen Thai's strategic plan to forge new alliances and synergies that will maintain its leadership position in the international apparel industry. Today, Luen Thai focuses on the challenges of globalization, e-commerce, supply chain management, and systems for social accountability and consistent quality certification. Luen Thai is one of the largest manufacturers of apparel and a major supplier of the best known and top selling brands in the world. It owns a large number of manufacturing plants, which are strategically located in the Philippines, China, Cambodia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, and Mexico. At present, over 13,000 employees with expertise in apparel production, merchandising, customer service, marketing, human resources, accounting, and information technology work in these plants, and offices in Asia, Micronesia, and America. The company has also expanded its operations into Europe as the recently acquired New York-based GJM has sales and sourcing offices in the United Kingdom. Acquired early 2002 from Warnaco Group, Inc., Glynn and Jacquelyn Manson (GJM) becomes a division of Luen Thai. GJM, specializing in sleepwear and loungewear, has manufacturing plants in the Philippines, China, and Sri Lanka. Aside from the U.K., it also has sales and sourcing offices in the U.S.A., and Asia such as Hong Kong, China, and Sri Lanka.
